Lysteria Hysteria!!!

Why do I call it Lysteria Hysteria?

I'm sure by now that most people have heard about the 8 deaths that may have been attributed to the Lysteria bacteria that began mid-July 2008 with Maple Leaf Meats in Ontario. While any deaths for any reason are sad and I don't wish death or illness on anyone -I believe there is a hypocritical problem with our news service that I want to point out!

Note how the news sensationalizes the few deaths and illness that have occurred over the past 2 months - illness and deaths that are avoidable by instant recalls of all food - and perhaps cleaner food handling conditions.

BUT - why don't we hear about the thousands (millions globally) children who are killed or abused every day in Canada, USA and every other country on the planet?? People can research statistics if they don't believe my rant but the point is that the media is in a powerful position in society and I believe they have the responsibility to report THE FACTS without sensationalizing, titillating or minimizing issues of importance. Children can't protect themselves so it's up to adults to step up and be human but most people who aren't affected (they weren't abused and they're not abusing) are mislead to believe there isn't a serious problem!

So yes, it's the Lysteria Hysteria because so few people are affected in relation to the number of children who are suffering and the media stepped up to protect people from possible harm - but they do nothing to protect the children from harm and the statistics grow daily.

Pretty bad to refer to child abuse as statistics instead of crimes that need to be STOPPED!
